Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
This is aimed at EZ5i users rather than the older carts (EZ5 original, EZ5 NYE and EZ5plus). The older ones can update but you will not gain anything in this release, for the EZ5i though it represents a massive change and the result of a lot of work. EZ5i (and only EZ5i) users please update with the included updating program.
In the traditional sense there are no game fixes in this release but if you read the release notes/problem games list viewtopic.php?f=16&t=15542&start=0 you will see why that does not matter so much (yes it is worth updating regardless of what you are at if you have an EZ5i):

Firmware changelog
-note you need to at least be on firmware v12 prior to using this firmware update-
Firmware version can be found in the options menu (where you change language, 3 in 1 settings and the like). If you need a copy of an older update check the "EZ5i core/firmware update" sticky in this section.
1.New unified EZ5i firmware- 705 and 805 hardware revisions now use one firmware.
2.Fixed problems with DSi XL on all versions
3.Emulated ROM reads under 0x8000 at firmware level "0x8000 inhibitor"- a common flash cart detection method now blocked.
4.DLDI v3/general write crc calculations now performed on card FPGA rather than on the DS CPU- massive speedup resulting on all writing related activities
5.Improved handling of certain microSD(HC) models- issues with memory made in Taiwan should be sorted
Kernel changelog
1.Added "special mode" that disables ARM9 patching- combined with the under 0x8000 read emulation most present and possibly future AP methods will be blocked. This does disable extra functions so patches will still be necessary.
2.Special mode speed setting- highest speed 0, lowest 10. Allows users with slower memory to set a speed.
3.Rewrite to accommodate new firmware- old kernels will not work any more
4.Added multi-splash screen and splash screen animation capability (not available at present in the non EZ5i models).
5.EZ5i now uses ez5isys.bin replacing ez5sys.bin (which will be kept/updated for older models)

Re: Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
Awesome news!
Just got to ask this before i try.
Is it possible / safe to upgrade my EZ Flash Vi (805) to EZ5i Firmware v101 on a Nintendo DSi running DSi Menu 1.4?
Dont want the end result to be a bricked card.

Thanks FAST6191. Great job on both gbatemp and here news.
Also want to thanks ez team for all the hard work on this release.
They never give up about the DSi XL freezing bug.
So thank you guys.
Edit : I have updated the thread where trouble games are reported.
Please check it to see what you get when upgrading to this firmware + kernel.

Re: Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
k3.0ob1 will only run with ez5i under v101 firmware, so yep.
After v101 update, the file ez5isys.bin is used. No more ez5sys.bin.
In other word, kernels are splitted now. Too much problem on ez5i was tied to retro-compatibility.
ez5sys.bin for ez5 v1, v2 and plus
ez5isys.bin for all ez5i version.

Re: Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
After updating 2.0 RC16 to 3.0 OB1 it still says "2.0 RC16" on Settings screen...
EDIT: It's opening my "games" directory reaaaaally long, and it's not showing games icons (and it just freezed after opening directory, but closing DS works - screens are turning off) O.o. Other directories are OK. And homebrew is working.
EDIT2: DSOrganize isn't loading any original games icons in my "games" directory, too O.o. And it's veeeeeeeeeeeery slow in this directory. Homebrew icons are fine. Wtf?

This update is for EZ5i only. Have you done the firmware update to be able to run k3.0OB1 ?

Re: Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
Hi guys.
Well, this is kind embarrassing, but I am just a player that know nothing about kernels and stuff, I just follow instructions to make my card works. Someone open minded, with a very goo heart can explain me, in a very simple way, what this upgrade really do?
I just want to play more games, so it's nonsense a update that does not fix anything, but if someone says that is something rally good, is because it is something really good that I not understanding now. I just want a shorter, direct explanation. Can be just in one or two sentence, for someone that just play and is a dumb in game fixing, patching or skin maker or whatever. Sorry.
Well, congratulations Ez Team with your new stuff. I hope see a sale explosion from now.

Because there is nothing to fix with this new kernel.
A most common AP protection is defeated with this new kernel + firmware. See ?

Re: Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
Thanks guys for this new update to a great flash cart. I do have a question though. If I update the firmware to 101 so I can use Kernel 3.0 ob1, can I still go back and use Kernel 2.0 RC 16 if I want to or will I only be able to use Kernel 3.0 with firmware 101?

Re: Kernel 3.0 OB1 and EZ5i firmware v101 (10th June 2010)
The new firmware is totally different than previous 1X series, so, no older kernel will run once update in 101.
It's like if you transform your EZ5i to a completely different flashcart.
