This guide is to aid users having problems with EZFlash V and to outline basic common troubleshooting techniques. Note that most of the problems exist (unless otherwise stated) only in kernel versions below 1.36.

Common Errors

Sometimes some problems occur only because certain requirements was not met. Please make sure you have done the following before reading anything else below.

1.) Make sure that you have placed the MicroSD card in properly, the contacts from the card -> cart may not be touching properly or not as a whole.

2.) Make sure that shell folder is inside your microSD card.

3.) If problems occur, try formatting your card and try again.

4.) Speed settings must be calibrated to work with your specific microSD card brand. SLC cards = faster (lower #) speed settings as to MLC is to slower (higher #) speed settings.

5.) Make sure that your ROM resource is a trust worthy source, and that your rom is a valid rom image, if you are working with homebrew games or applications special EZV procedures may be required to make it work.

6.) Clean Vs. Hybrid Roms, if you are working with a clean rom - try using a hybrid version! Often times hybrid works better with slower cards. The rule of thumb is to use Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin to test out your MicroSD card speed settings and is used to calibrate the best speed setting, if that game loads smoothly and flawlessly - your microSD card and speed setting is on the best configuration, if its going a bit slow on any setting.. switch to hybrid.

7.) Make sure you have the latest save list.

8.) Fix any file integrity errors (See Recovering Save Files)

9.) Use the latest kernel/loader. (v.1.36 at the moment)

Ambiguous Erroneous Screens

ITCMO X 20A1310,0 X 0 , 0 X 5804
DTCMO X 209F060, 0 X 800000, 0 X 22b0

init filesystem
filema x count=256
not found EXFS.

Symptoms: EXFS not found, erroneous reboots, black screen between games (random). The error message is shown above - the date is unique as to when your card was purchased. This error appears when you don't have a MicroSD card attached as well, see #1 in the topic above.

Cause: PASS-ME system on EZV is corrupted.

Solution: Get a replacement from the store of origin.

Save Problem: Save File Resets

Symptoms: In-game save files are reset.

Cause: Happens usually when one connects the MicroSD to the computer in any method, with any medium.

Solution:

1) Play the game first, save then turn off your NDS/NDSL.
2) Turn on the Nintendo DS/DSL and make the slot 1 auto write microSD (saving convention).
3) Connect the microSD to the computer, and make a backup of the save file.
4) Turn on the Nintendo DS/DSL and run EZ-V, it will auto save / write the file. Save file wont be reset.
5) Copy the backup save file from the computer to the microSD
6) Run EZ-V with B-Button PRESSED!

or

Windows Based Systems
Click Start > Run > type "cmd" > type "chkdsk <drive letter of sd card> /f"

"chkdsk e: /f" (where e is the drive of your microSD, without quotes)

Save Problem: Save File Corrupted

Symptoms: The save file is corrupted.

Cause: kernel problem.

Solution: please download kernel v1.36

Save Problem: Save File Error / Corruption (2)

Symptoms: When the game is started it says save file error, corrupted or any kind of this error and it asks you to run the game again.

Cause: save-type error

Solution:

1) Do only once you've gotten the error.
2) Run EZ-V with B-Button PRESSED!
3) Start the game with the right save type.

To prevent this from happening, get the latest savelist.

Backing up saves without taking out EZV

Solution:

This requires that you have DSorganize set up on your card.

1.) Play your game
2.) Save your game
3.) Load EZV, dont press B
4.) Load DSorganize
5.) Go to the file browser
6.) Go to the "SAVE" folder, press R until you find the option of copying a file, then copy your save file
7.) Go to another folder, press R until you see "Paste" then paste your file

Recovering save files

Solution:

1.)Run CHKDSK (Windows Application)
2.)Run Error Checking with "Automatically fix file system errors" checked on the removable hard drive corresponding to the Micro SD.

Click Start > Run > type "chkdsk <drive letter of Micro SD card>: /f"

It creates a temp001 folder (or similar). In it is a file called file001.chk.

3.)Rename file001.chk to the [Corrupted Save Game Name].sav.

It's not always 100% successful - Sometimes there is extra garbage in the file which makes it unusable.
