EZSkinner is a program that takes skins in a folder or an archive (extracts them on the fly), -- be it EZ3 GBA or EZ4 DS and/or GBA -- , and shows a simulation of what the skin looks like (just DS for now really). It then allows you to skin your EZ3 GBA loader or EZ4 DS and/or GBA firmware upgrade (ezfla_up.bin) with the click of a button. It also allows you to create a preview shot of the DS skin (to show off your skin online) without messing around with Photoshop, etc to get a mocked up preview.

You will need the EZ4Kernel (ezfla_up.bin) in the EZSkinner directory to use the EZ4 skinning functionality.

If you skinned the EZ3 GBA loader you will find loader_GBA.bin in the EZSkinner directory. Copy this over the one that is in the sysbin directory inside of the EZManager directory. If you have EZManager 2.08 or older you will need to rename this to loader.bin. Then in EZManager choose Write EZ3 loader.

If you skinned the EZ4 firmware upgrade then you will have a file named ezfla_up.bin in the Skinner directory. Copy this the root of your miniSD/microSD card and hold R while starting up the DS to boot to the firmware upgrader.

yup ive been using it to preview the work ive done so far on the skin im making...should i use this over the original dos tool for actually updating the loader..any pros/cons to this tool over the original dos tool?

There is no difference because it uses cory's batch files and program to put the firmware update together.

Thanks for the update Cracker - this program is a godsend.

If I were to make a feature request, it would be the ability to choose different folders for the GBA and NDS skins.

That way if you had a library of skins organised into folders, you could pick and choose different GBA and NDS skins to your liking. Particularly useful when a skin comes with a variety of flavours (such as Masahaiko's awesome productions).

Also helps if you're producing skins and have half a dozen different versions.

I'll try to figure out a way to do that gracefully -- The easiest way would be to designate a set of drive/directory/filename windows for each gba and ds but I might just make it so if the current folder being viewed has new DS files then to update the DS but leave the GBA intact and vice versa. Unfortunately, I've no time to work on it until at least Tuesday since I'm going out of town. :/

As I was skinning 1.70 with nintendodotcom I found a few errors, nuthin crucial but for completeness:

skin_txt.bat:
from:
copy /Y RomBuildPro.dummy /gba/RomBuildPro.rom
to:
copy /Y RomBuildPro.dummy .\gba\RomBuildPro.rom

but I think I read somewhere that EZ4 doesn't use it anyway.

And text.txt:
change:
line 38 to reflect which version you skinning on both sides of the ;
and
line 20 to fix the typo "unkonwn" on the right side of the ;

I actually have a few feature requests As, I always do.

1/ An option to put your SD card path in & following that, a check box to auto copy the ezfla_up.bin directly to the card.
2/ Auto clean up of the temp dir.
3/ Save the preview images with the same name as the zip (in the same dir - which you've implemented). Maybe put <name>-DS.jpg and <name>-GBA.jpg

Any of those would be appreciated.

Thanks for the bug report han. I fixed the errors in text.txt (but this file gets overwritten if the skin contains it) thus is somewhat futile.

Also... EZskinner.exe wont start in vista comes up with an error:

Component 'UNZIP.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid


would be nice to get this working
