Hi. Im going to be getting a EZV for my kid cousin, he just wants to play games, no need for homebrew. If i just have trimmed scene releases, no patches or anything, what mode will i use? and should i use the latest firmware?

He doesnt need download play or anything, but once i give him the card, he nor his parents will know how to change modes, etc, so i just want to set the card settings write once, and hopefully he should be able to play all the latest games without any need for fiddling with settings/modes.

please advise.

thanks in advance

i would think just leave everything default, and tell him about the cheat/soft reset toggle.

Oh, you should also get the latest cheat files before you give it to him

forget cheatmode, and possibly softreset, i would just like to know what mode/kernal has the most compatibility for trimmed roms.

whats the deal with the savelist?

cuz i read that some people are staying with earlier kernels

Just use the latest kernel, 1.66. It will mean the least work for him.

Save list is for older kernels.

Just show him how 1.66 works and you should be fine, obviously he won't be putting new games on it or anything.

either mode will play trimmed roms, just put the roms on the card. Why would you bother asking about modes if your not letting him use cheats and soft reset?

The savelist is for the people who like kernel 1.41 and 1.5 better then the ones with auto save detect. For ease just get 1.66

but you said on your own page that the auto save detect wasnt perfect. im thinking, should i just get the latest savelist? and can i just change the entire thing so everything runs using the savelist?

sorry, i dont have an ezv with me, so i cant figure it out myself

1.) There has only been one problem with the save list, and that was in 1.62, it has long been fixed.

2.) If you just want your cousin to play without hassle and still be able to put new games on i wouldn't recommend using a savelist kernel because it has to be updated constantly(or at least everytime you get a new game). And the savelist can have issues too if mosqto(the one who's maintaining it now) has a typo :D

Plus, honestly, the new kernel is *much* better looking and easier to use, IMHO.
