So, my 3-in-1 won't hold saves anymore for any game. Is it the battery? What kind of battery do I need to replace it with? Am I going to have to get some soldering crap or is it just a unscrew the back panel and replace the battery kind of job?

Yes you will have to de-solder and solder a new one (not very difficult as solder point are big).
According to this thread, the battery is not rechargeable and it's a coin 3v battery with tabs.

It's impossible to see the part number on the battery because of middle tab. We can only see that brand name is started by a H and ended by a X.
I really don't know what this could be. Probably a unknown china manufactured ...

Yes you can, but 3in1 will not recharge it as cory1492 has said. So if you don't have something to recharge coin battery ML ...
So you'd better buy a CR because it's cheaper than a ML.

I wish there was some way to avoid losing my saves every year or so. Why couldn't EZFlash have patched SRAM games to use Flash instead of the other way around?
