Has anyone found it strange that there aren't any trainers or at least hexedited cheats for DS yet? That's gonna be one of the first things I look into after I play around a bit... If anyone else has taken a look at it I would love to hear about your efforts.

I wondered the same thing the other day, if I recall there was a Nintendogs trainer (GBA cart for actual DS game) while back that did some things and Animal crossing had some map extractors but as for cheats (Gameshark,codebreaker etc) there is essentially nothing.
Cheating is not really my area (I have had an action replay style device for essentially every console I have ever owned with the possible exception of the Commodore 64) but when reverse engineering Raeca's Children of Mana rip I noticed one of the item components had been edited about halfway through the file what this does I do not know though (note the rip on the thread does not include this, I will send an IPS file should you want it).
Personally I think the DS slot being so small and the lack of a decent emulator is what has done it but with NDS roms being so easy to decompile and tweak (they even name the sections with nice descriptive names) the task should be easy enough.
I am sure you have seen it cracker but for the others: http://www.sosuke.com/ezflash/viewtopic.php?t=457 is the thread I am on about.

Actually, if you head over to gscentral.org, there is a guy there named Parasyte. He was the very first person to really hack any DS games. He found a way to play the offline courses on Mario Kart online. He has hinted that he has recently been employed to code for a true DS cheat device. He is saying late this year for the release. Parasyte is the person responsible for ARCrypt (encrypts/decrypts action replay codes for the GBA) and GCN Crypt (does the same for the Gamecube). It should be noted that the same day Datel (manufacturers of the Action Replay) changed their encryption algorythms, Parasyte was able to crack it, heh. He is also the author of GCNRD which allows searching and creating codes for the GCN. This is also the most common tool used for dumping and streaming back to the cube, original gamecube games. Parasyte is one hell of a coder. Nice kid too, as long as you don't rub him the wrong way.

Damn thats sweet! Even better... that thread has actual hex addresses for games! Here's a link to ones for use with DipStar: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA018359 ... atcode.htm! Unfortunately it says EZPass doesn't work. Maybe it does with FlashMe though... Will hopefully be able to test it tomorrow... That's when my EZPass should arrive!

@Luney,
I saw that too, the other day... I had a feeling he was well... A bit full of it, but I'm glad that you've cleared that up. I get quite sceptical when I read people saying all these things they're doing, oh but you're going to have to wait until November before you get to see it.
However, since he's done some impressive coding / cracking already, then I'm in. I believe this thing is coming.
Personally I think the biggest issue is the lack of decent emulation. VBA and it's various ports are probably mostly responsible for the GBA cheats / Trainers coming out. Yes, hardware cheat devises have played an enormous role, however without decent emulation, there isn't a huge point of reference for people to hack.
As soon as we have quality emulation with searchable memory, then I'm sure the cheats will come flying out.
On a similar note, has anyone noticed the distinct lack of built in cheats for DS games ?! They all suck. In fact, the only game I've found that has real cheats is Disney's Kim Possible. And that game doesn't bloody work!
Even if we don't get an emulator with a cheat engine/cheat search you can use a program like ArtMoney to cheat on the emulator at least... I've used it on TG16 and it worked pretty good.

Dipstar actually comes with a search program designed for use with iDeaS & DeSMUME. It's mostly in Japanese so I can't work it out fully... It's called Hasteds.
If I can be patient enough, I might try using it again and trying to work out what it does. The biggest issue is that it won't work with the EZPass, so I'm not that enthusiastic about bothering to try. If it doesn't work with our hardware, why bother using it to hack ?!
Yeah that's sad that it won't work with EZPass. But it didn't say anything about if it worked with FlashMe or not...
Having the addresses to memory locations can still come in handy for hex editing the binaries. The site that had DipStar had a disassembler that I was going to put to use.
