I'm not sure if I missed it in one of the topics here but anyways here goes..... Im able to dismantle the rom using ndstool... I got the files and folders extracted.... files like arm7.bin... arm9.bin and a few folders... Ive read I can alter stuff from this point. ... How do I do that and which file to pick ? Im trying to see if i can edit health or stats .... im planning to test it on megaman zx.
NDSTool breaks the rom up into the individual files that make it (some of which have their own file structure).
What most people do is use this to either shrink the DS file (see link in my signature), modify the files (to translate, improve, alter, whatever. See rom hacking: http://ezflash.sosuke.com/viewtopic.php?t=2245 ).
What you want to do is either edit a save (make many different saves with minor tweaks and find out which sections do what) or the games code to reduce damage and the like, for the second part you will have to disassemble the rom:
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA018359/ndsdis/ find the routines responsible (emulation is just about good enough to handle this but you can also use some premade cheats to find the routines in the disassembled code that write to the addresses and alter them.
Megaman ZX though I seem to recall has compressed binaries meaning you will have to decompress them first.
