hey
probaby not a good place to ask but your all so nice here and trusty and brainy so worth a shot
need some help setting up a wifi "station" on my laptop here
but been trying for like 2 months now and still no go
well i went and bought one of these things here from winsunx:=
http://www.winsunx.com/indexnds.php?mod=752
long story short it does appear to work i did get the drivers finally and install it
and the software seems to be ready lil animations going off (didnt before)
and saying "Link Status: Connecting......."
phew okay i trust it
now to my NDS settings well ive just been using Metroid Prime Hunters (australian commercial proper cartridge) on NintendoDS Lite (flashme7) shouldnt matter eh?
go into multiplayer and can configure WiFi it goes back into some NDS GUI screens to do so
into "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Setup" and i need to "register" the NDSL right?? register the WEP or something (confusing for my bumpy brains)
basicaly everything seems ready i set most everything to automatic
except this WEP setting i dont get it
i need to set the WEP on both NDS settings and the USB WiFi program settings
but what?? ive tried entering same groups of numbers but it never picks it up
i shove my NDSL right next to the damn USB thing and it never picks it up
what could i enter as WEP key??
i guess you all know the NDS stuff but i can post pics of the USB WiFi program settings if needed
thanks for any help on this the most confusing stuff for me here
thanks

I haven't done it this way before, but I think you would need to configure the USB adpater to be an Access point of some sort. (though it says it can support upto 5 NDS's)

Is it possible for you to upload the user manual that came with it so we can have a gander? (that's if it's in .pdf or any other electronic/data format)

ok, I should know what the settings should be now with them pics. ^_^

1: Set to Access Point

2: Go into more settings, then WEP encryption key settings (Have WPA turned off!!)

3: Set to 128bit, ASCII, then type in a 13 character password (case sensitive), click apply

Looks like the General Connection Settings would be ungreyed (or you need to press the CHANGE button) when in access point mode, Just give it an SSID name and leave the other options as is. ^_^

And that should be it I reckon. ^_^

Almost forgot, you'd need to go into control panel, network connections, right-click your network adpater (the one which is connected to the internet, not the wifi dongle).

Then go into the advanced tab, then check "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" thingiebob ^_^ (might have to press an enable sharing buttong or something).

Hope that helps :-)

hey thanks some success!!!!
now i get full signal strength from NDS and in the USB settings it now detects a "Station MAC Address"
when i run test connection i can see a 2x6 code "## ## ## ## ## ##"
so it seems everything does work it does detect but only for a while
after a few seconds (up to 10 seconds) it gives up and tells me:=
"Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings."
so i looked through and found my IP address but the NDS wants more settings i dunno how to find
if i click "auto-obtain IP address" to NO then theres like 5 different sets of codes i need
i know the main IP and "subnet mask" but where do i find out the rest the gateway and DNS codes??
in my network properties it says "gateway" but no code no address and it seems NDS needs one
(EDIT= oh yeh i DID make sure to turn off my firewalls and antivirus and stuff like that just incase)

Ahhh, I didn't think to say about IP related stuff ^_^ lol

firstly, what are in them "advanced settings" and "information" buttons? ^_^ do they have anything about setting an IP address for the USB wifi adapter in there? :-)

I will explain more on how to setup the IP after you reply with any info. ^_^

edit: also if you have msn, add me and I can guide you through in real time. (my addy is in profile)

those settings in the pic are only for "station" mode
"access point" mode has only a few very basic options like WEP and stuff
but no kidding i went in there and looked at this region setting
changed it from "australia" to "worldwide" and tried running the test again
it went "PLOMP!" and said "Connection successful." WTF thanks duuude!!!!1

but now the registration tool doesnt work
but i guess thats becuz im using 3rd-party USB WiFi
and not the official Nintendo WiFi USB with the official software with that
so ill try some homebrew stuff see if i can get some wifi homebrew working like the one to control winamp
so to play wifi multiplayer online i need to offical nintendo one to register with right?
becuz for this one it seems even though "Connection successful." cant access the register software
ah well
thanks a million alcaholjunkie :!: :D

You don't need the official nintendo USB dongle ^_^ pretty much any Access Point or wifi router will work. ^_^ (though manual IP settings are needed for use with some)

if you go to control panel, network connections, right-click on the USB wifi dongle thingie and select properties, then select TCP/IP thingie, click on properties you can then set a static IP for the USB wifi (I think, I'm unsure with that device itself though.)

The IP for the USB wifi dongle needs to be on a different network to the ethernet (or whatever it is you are using for internet connection).

I can't really tell you the settings right off the bat without knowing details of your current LAN settings.

Well it's late here, I'm off to bed. ^_^ if you want I can pm you tomorrow with details on what info I need in order to help you configure it all, unless you get it working yourself or someone else helps you that is! lol. ^_^

thanks again for your help
i tried dsamp and wouldnt connect
so it really seems i need to set a certain IP and other addresses in the wifi setup
so can anyone tell me what should the gateway and DNS (primary and secondary) addresses??
i tried simple stuff like 1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.2 and 3.3.3.3 set on both and no success
the config for my wireless connection is set to automatic detect
otherwise i need to set them all manualy and no idea what they should be
when i click on support, details it tells me only IP address and subnet mask
the gateway and DNS is blanked out no info there to see
i tried clicking repair button but that poops itself and fails during renew IP address
arrrr my brain hurrrttsss :(

No you shouldn't need official nintendo software on your PC or anything ^_^ as long as it can connect to the internet through your PC with your USB dongle acting as an Access Point. ^_^

Well I sent you a pm with what I think is all the neccesary settings you need to do now (other that the stuff mentioned in this thread before about setting Access Point and connection sharing). ^_^

I did start making a guide on setting up wifi on different network configurations, but not finnished it yet. ^_^
