6 months ago a bought a EZFlash Vi and started to use it. Then I stumbled upon the term "AP", which was easily fixable by appliing "AP-patches" on my clean roms. Now Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2 (english version) has been released with an AP that even after rom patching persist. Then I saw something interesting... "I passed the ice cream cone (Dubhe) boss with my EZ Flash Vi (1.08 firmware)"... So I made some research and learned I have some software installed on my flashcard that needs to be updated. Downloaded firmware 108a (a nds file) wich I tried to run and got a message to try to update to 1.1 prior using this update. Well,.. I made backups of my EZ5SHELL folder and the ez5sys.bin file as I learned this is something called a "kernel". I backuped my saves, roms, and a ROMDAT folder too and formatted my flash card, as specified in a Wikipedia site, with SDFormatter. Downloaded Kernel 3.0 ob7 with firmware v103 and upon unpacking this rar file I saw that it contained a EZ5Shell folder + an ez5isys.bin file almost the same thing that I backuped before (my backup contains an ez5sys.bin instead of an ez5isys.bin file). I pasted the 3.0 kernel v103 firmware content into my flashcard. Booting resulted a Kernel no found message. So I renamed the ez5isys.bin file to ez5sys.bin like my default old installation had -> This kernel is not for this flash card oO ... Well .. my flashcard in now empty.. I'd like to know how to proceed correctly to have all up to date without breaking something.
This is my first post on this forum and I registered like 30mins before posting this. Seem like EZ flash has already a long history and went through a number of updates while my software is likely something like 1.0 or JustRelease version. And I have no experience in this whatsoever. I just bought EZFlashVi 6 months ago and used it as it was till today, so please don't be to harsh with me if I made some grave mistakes.
You may have already figured this out as its been a couple of weeks since you posted this but here goes:
1. Backup and delete all data from your MicroSD Card 2. Download and extract kernel 2.0 RC20 to your MicroSD 3. Download and extract firmware v101 to your MicroSD 4. Insert the MicroSD back into your EZVi and run/install the firmware v101 update 5. Delete all data from your MicroSD Card 6. Download and extract kernel 3.0 OB8 to your MicroSD 7. Put all your games and stuff back on your MicroSD 8. DONE! NOTE: Version 2.0 kernels will only run on firmware v14 and lower NOTE2: Version 3.0 kernels will only run on firmware v101 and higher
It is not necessary for you to update the firmware any higher if you are not running on a DSi or 3DS If you are however, just run the latest firmware v108a update Make sure you read everything there as there is a chance of bricking your card with this update, it happened to me but i was able to unbrick it with my brothers R4DS and the unbricker 2.0 supplied on that page.
