Hey all,

The L button on my DS Lite broke, so I used it as a good excuse for an upgrade to a 3DS. However I was in the middle of playing Yoshi's Island DS, and I'd like to finish the game on my computer (a friend is letting me borrow his Xbox 360 controller). However, I can't seem to get my save file loaded on any emulator I've tried (No$GBA, iDeaS, DeSmuME).

I tried using the raw save file, importing it using DeSmuME's import save file function, the shunyweb online save converter and some random .NET program I found online and nothing's worked. Can someone can point me in the right direction to get it working in any emulator (at this point I really don't care which, as long as I can finish the game)

Thank you so much,
yetanothername

Saves on the ez5 are raw so, you should be able to import them in desmume.

I have no idea about the issue you encounter.

Maybe try to set the save size of the game manually according to advanscene.com.

I tried setting the save size manually, no dice. I figured that somehow the *.sav's I copied to my computer became corrupt, so I tried copying them again from the micro SD card. Tried that again and no dice. (I'm using desmume's File->Import Backup Memory command) Still not working, so I acquired another copy of the rom image and tried using that, no luck.

So I opened up the save on the uSD card in a hex editor and this is what I got:

That data repeats every 0x00000100 bytes or so until 0x00001FE0, where it becomes all 0's until EOF. Super Mario 64 DS is even worse, with random strings like "ds mario5000™Ý9" and "~dwefˆdednddffld" repeated over and over. Mario Kart DS is the only thing with random-looking data, and when I load that save into desmume, MK refuses to run.

Is there something I need to do on the EZ-Flash to get it to write valid save data to the uSD card? I'm assuming that it saves it's files into SAVES\[rom name].sav, is that a correct assumption?

I'm about to give up on this because I've spent several hours wondering wtf I'm doing wrong here.

I played around with it a bit more today and I think I know that the problem is on the EZ-Flash side. I remembered that when I first got the card you had to press some weird key combo to transfer the save to the uSD card. I looked that up and it was L+Select. However when I boot the card and press L+Select, it cycles through the brightness settings :/

However, if I rename the save files in uSD:/SAVE, when I start the game my progress disappears when I load the game, but reappears when I put them back, so I don't know what the hell is going on.

For the record I'm using "EZ5 - 2.0 RC20" on a 1GB Kingston uSD card.

What the hell am I doing wrong and/or missing?

Edit: The saves work fine in No$GBA, so I guess problem solved?
