I second this question.

705 and 805 numbers are here to tell you the hardware revision. It's not the firmware version guys. Check your system settings window to have all information you need.

is it a setting for games that wont run due to microSD read/write speeds??

Yeah, and it's tied to special mode. It's a sort of clean mode without the dedicated save chip. ;)

Slightly confused...

I have the 805 revision and would like to update the firmware. The first post on this thread tells me to use the shortcut to update to V1.2 but when I cick on the link there is a message telling me I may want to check out V1.5

Is it safe to update to V1.5 or should I stick to the original post and just update to V1.2?

Thanks,

Thanks for the earlier answer Mbmax! I really appreciate all of your help!

I'm going to second this question now. I have 805, and it also says F[12] 2.0 RC14, and I have the Tak icon.

As Wiiner said, when I go to the link listed on the first post, it takes me to the Filetrip page, and that page says "You may also want to check out the latest version of this file: EZ5i firmware update 15"

This is kind of confusing you must admit.

[705] and [805] refer to the hardware revisions of the EZ5i, some firmware updates targeted a given revision (although this newest one unifies them again).

Generally speaking if you have the tak icon you are good to go- the only downfall to using this method is if you did the very first DSi 1.4 fix (v11) that we did not spread that far and did not upgrade afterwards. I imagine most people did upgrade but in the event you are unsure:
The firmware version is displayed on the later firmware updates themselves which you can always power off from before you start updating and as of I think it was 2.0 RC6 the firmware version is displayed in the system settings menu (where you change the skin and rumble settings).
@regnad filetrip always has a message that points to the newest version (it is for old links on forums and the like)- we only say older versions and a very small number of people had problems (or your hardware version is not compatible with the "newest" version) and there is no sense in risking it if you are going to update again a few seconds later.

@those concerned about older carts not being updated- special mode allows games to be played but not to be used to their fullest (no cheats, soft reset and the like) so patches will still be made and the older carts will be updated then- this update has been the main focus of the EZTeam in the month or so since 2.0 RC16 (if not before) and the EZTeam have had this in a fairly workable state for a few days before this release so it was kind of burning a hole in the pockets of the developers so to speak.
It is my personal hope that updates will come as they are made from now on rather than bundling them up (like it was back in the days of the frequent resetsp.bin releases or is now with AKAIO).

As for it saying it is 2.0 RC16 on older models it is because it is- the initial release did not have the ez5sys.bin in it so I added one to stop people from having the release "not work" for them.

@k1m0 thanks for the bug report- I can not seem to confirm it though.

Just to clarify:

The link to Filetrip in the opening post that 805 users should use -- the file downloaded from that page is the one to use?

I should ignore the confusing message at Filetrip telling me to use a different one?

Yes?

The 2 link are just here to remind users that doesn't have Tak update done on their EZVi, to make it.
The v101 will not update your ezvi if you are in old firmware (EZVi icon instead of Tak). Understand ?

Now as you are already with a Tak firmware, just launch v101 update provided with the kernel.
You seems to be scarry of something or i'm wrong ?

Was about to ask you to do that.

Glad you have found that by yourself. ;)

Sorry to keep bothering you, Mbmax!

From Filetrip I got an NDS file called ez5firmwreUP_V12

I put it on my SD card, launched it, pressed Y to continue, and it said "current firmware Version is 12. This cartridge need not upgrade, please power off"

And there is no change that I can see.

Did I do something wrong?

Ok, so I just came across a weird problem. After testing out Kirby Super Star Ultra, I decided to play WarioWare D.I.Y. Unfortunately, it hung for some odd reason, and now when I try to boot the EZ5i card, it goes to the EZ-Flash splash screen and stays there. It doesn't even show the loading animation. What happened?

Why you still want to update a firmware you already have ? just use the new package, kernel 3.0ob1 + v101 provided in the main post.
I paste you again the link here : http://filetrip.net/f11774-EZ5-Kernel-3-0-OB1.html
or the official link : http://www.ezflash.cn/zip/EZVi_kernelV3 ... re_V101.7z

I though you have understood what i said, but seems not.
My english is probably not good enough. :P

Check if you have enough space left on your microSD.
Also run in a dos box, checkdisk your microSD :
chkdsk x: /f
where x: is the letter of your microSD.

No, no, it's me being stupid.

Should I replace the shell folder and the sys.bin file and then launch the v101, or the other way around? Or does it matter?

The 7zip provided is plug and play. Just replace files on your microSD
Once v101 update done, just delete the firmware file from your microSD.

I've done both of those, and still no luck.

This is what I'm greeted with when I try to boot it up:
