This is my first attempt at a skin. Just sticking up the preview for now - Need to put some text on the "Touch to Skip" window and fix the corruption on the select bar before it's ready.
It's nothing special - just grabbed some images from google and played around in Photoshop (which I am a complete noob with by the way) and then stuck them all together with EZSkinner.
Any suggestions from people who (unlike me) know what they are doing with PS and skins very welcome............
*EDIT* Preview removed now as it's with us no longer......
Here's the link for the new version
I'd agree with Slade that some alterations should be made to the buttons. Either make the white translucent, or maybe 3d-ize them if you're using photoshop and can do that sort of thing. They'd look good with some depth like that.
do you rekon you could get a higher rez image for the top picture, its like you got and image of the box art and enlarged it.
Funny you should say that.............
Thanks for all the feedback. I am not happy with the buttons myself as they stand - need a little more playing around with in PS I agree (didn't realise I could add a bit of depth to them - will try that over the weekend).
And yes, the top half does let it down a bit on the resolution side of things - time to trawl the net again and look for a higher res version.
Thanks again guys
*EDIT* Got a much nicer top screen now! And improved the pop-up window as well.
But these damn buttons are killing me - Can't seem to make any sense of transparencies Never mind, will stick at it for a bit longer yet.
An easy way to add a 3d effect to the buttons is (assuming they're on their own layer), right click the layer, blending options, bevel and emboss. Just a thought.
Yeah, I've managed to suss out bevel & embossing - thanks for the tip venoman
It's just I'd rather have the images on the buttons with transparent backgrounds, so they don't look like buttons (if you catch my drift).
- In your layer pallette, select a layer which contains your icon artwork
- At the top of the pallette, you will see a dropdown box which currently says Normal (It appears next to the Opacity setting).
- Try changing this from Normal to screen, overlay, etc to get some interesting effects.
*Edit:* I made a quick video showing a few different ways to do it:
Scrawl you are an absolute star !!!!!! Thankyou so much for that little video - it explained more in a couple of minutes than I've been able to suss out for myself in weeks (didn't get any kind of manual with my copy of PS for some reason ).
Must get back to work while it's fresh in my mind.
Thanks again !
A definite improvement ramboz, you've done well on getting those icons working.
The big soft bevel edges you have on the background and ROM list isn't working for me, however this is a subjective opinion and will be different for everyone.
The icon on the select bar feels a little incomplete compared to the rest of the artwork - maybe get rid of the white background on that one too?
