Post subject: Fre questions before I buy EZ-Flash 4

First flash cart purchase ever .. The DS will be my first portable since Mono GC so id like to have near perfect support for GBA and DS .. that rules out the Supercard. M3 is just to ugly and overpriced for me.
<questions>
Does it work with Passcard 2?
Does it work with Max Media Launcher? (Pretty sure it doesn't .. yet)
Does it work with Flashme?
How good will %99 of the GBA games run on my DS? (running GBA is just as important as DS to me)
Will the EZF team will work out the bugs? (From what I read they are good at doing this and DS compatibility seems a lil buggy currently .. as far as i can tell)

I presume you mean mono Game Boy ? I have mine still. It's here somewhere. Man it's huge, with a teeny little screen.
Yes it shoud work with Passcard 2. There isn't a reason it shouldn't.
No it doesn't work with the Max Media Launcher. And here's the kicker, if the Passcard 2 is identical to the MML, then it's not going to work. Datel have been accused of making crap products of late.
Yes it does work with Flashme. Most people here (excluding me) use Flashme on their DS. I like mine pure.
There are currently 2403 GBA game roms released. You wanna test them all ?! I most certainly don't. I believe that there are a number of games that don't work too well on the EZ4. Some people are having issues with 16meg roms. It could be their cart, it could be a lot of things.... If you're that bummed that a few hundred (at a big guess) roms won't run out of 2400+, then don't buy it just yet.
DS games work. There are about 40 that don't work properly yet. Most are clones of each other. Look for a post by Windirt, he lists the official compatibility list in that thread.
Will gold rain from the sky ? I damned well hope so. We'd have to presume that they'll work out bugs in the software.
Heh yea the first Gameboy .. I still remember the first time I played Super Mario Land!!
Thanks for the info and NO i wont play/test that many games heh.. it would just be a bummer if one of the main games i wana play was one that didnt work. *looks for Windirt's post*
I was originally going to buy a Supercard MiniSD for DS games and a EFA Linker for GBA Games... then I saw the EZ4 and it looks like it can do what i want for far less $$
Would something like a G6 have better compatibility for both GBA and DS? I realize it has potentially far less space and is a lot more money. I would rather not but I'm willing to spend that money to have the best compatibility / least amount of problems with GBA and DS games (preferably in one cart) .. I just need to figure out the best way to do this.
Patchwise the GBA games should be nigh perfect for EZ4. It should use the same system from EZ3 (which I've only seen two games not work). The problems are most likely from the type of media used. I'm sure they will correct it to support more cards with each version.

I tested a couple of 16meg GBA roms, from within the NDS loader and the GBA loader and they both worked. The only thing I noticed is that they do take a few seconds to copy to ram. This may be the issue that people are having. They might not leave the DS long enough for the game to copy.
There is no progress bar / count, so it is difficult to tell if it's working or not. I can't remember the exact time it took to load the GBA game, but it would be in the region of 10 - 20 seconds. The DS felt "stuck" and like it had hung. It was working though.
I ran more tests on the EZF4 with 16 MB GBA ROMs and documented the results below. All ROMs were audited with the GBA No-Intro Dat and are clean. Tested on a GBA SP with EZ4Kernel 20060511 and EZ4Client 20060510.
Hopefully the EZFlash team can address this problem with future updates.
Banjo Pilot (U) < black screen after loading Doom II (U) < textures get increasingly worse Fantastic 4 (U) < screen garbage then freeze Ice Age 2 - The Meltdown (U) < black screen after credits Legend of Zelda - The Minish Cap (U) < white screen after loading LEGO Star Wars - The Video Game (UE) < black screen after loading Lord of the Rings - The Third Age (UE) < freeze on company logo Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga (UA) < freeze on company logo Mario Golf - Advance Tour (U) < garbage pattern after loading Mario Tennis - Power Tour (UA) < freeze when starting a match Mario vs. Donkey Kong (UA) < white screen after loading Mortal Kombat - Tournament Edition (U) < bad textures then freeze Shaman King - Master of Spirits 2 (U) < freeze on game logo Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 (UE) < freeze on course options Top Spin 2 (U) < occasional screen garbage Ultimate Spider-Man (U) < black screen after loading
... I'm REALLY hoping thats either just happening on the SP or will be fixed soon ... I'd like to buy the EZ4 next month but i may be forced to get the ugly over sized / priced M3 heh!
