I have an EZ-Flash IV card (size of a GBA cartridge), a GBA SP, an R4i3D card and a NDS Lite.
I want my NDS Lite recognize the EZ-Flash card as a GBA cartridge with only one game, with no menu screen and all, just the GBA logo and them the game. I search at the internet and apparently the name for this is “Single game boot” but I don’t know if I am looking for the correct term and even if this is possible with an EZ-Flash IV.
So maybe games like Pokémon of the NDS (R4i3D SLOT-1) could make some operations (like trade pokémons) with the EZ-Flash card (EZ-Flash IV SLOT-2).
Many answers to your question depending on what you want.
Can you do it so like an EZ2 it appears to the console as the straight up game- not really.
Can you get it to boot to a game directly- technically yes but we do not suggest it (you have to force a jump loader like ezf3me in place of the menu).
However you seem to want to have the cart to act as another for the purposes of linkup which is a different matter.
For many DS games you could use the DS code running side of the EZ4 (recent games are right out but the earlier ones which are the main ones to have such features should be supported) and link abilities there (you can always transfer saves around) but pokemon as it always is (flash cart support sites dread new pokemon releases for precisely this reason) has to be special (most carts just wanted the header for the game there but this wanted to access saves which are not the same in terms of access routines to the original cart). Fortunately patches were made to allow DS slot flash carts to read various GBA slot devices (of which the EZ4 is one that is supported), it was/is called pokepatch and the site it was on ( http://nds.cmamod.com/2009/04/01/pokepatch-v4/ ) seems to be down and I am having trouble drumming up a mirror right now- the author (cory1492) is still around (mainly active on the xbox 360 side of things I find) so you might try finding him to see if he can link it to you (I know he has accounts on this forum and gbatemp among others but how closely he monitors those I do not know). If I have enough time later I might see if I have an email address or some other contact info for him. Edit- should try searching properly/using less complex terms http://www.mediafire.com/?cljjr4c6wwwqbhb appears to have it. Edit 2- put a mirror up on filetrip http://filetrip.net/f27240-Pokepatch-4-2.html
You can also use pokesav (the save editor for pokemon) to add whatever you might gain via the linking with a GBA cart. http://gbatemp.net/topic/50498-faq-pokesav/ has more on that.
Granted it is a fairly long winded process even as far as most hacks go but it should not be that bad.
DS flash cart side of things This should just be a matter of extracting the pokepatch download- grabbing the required DS rom and dropping it onto the exe file (there is a command line option if you are on vista or 7 and it decides it does not like it). Copy the new file to your DS flash card and call it your rom.
EZ4 side of things For the EZ4 find the unpatched rom and copy it to your miniSD card as you would any other file (no need for EZ4client) along with a save (named the same as the rom and stuck in the save directory). Write this to the NOR (find it on the EZPDA/EZDisk- where you normally launch GBA roms) by pressing select and then trying to launch it (it will probably fail but the save should end up where it needs to be).
Once this is done run the DS rom you originally patched on your DS flash card and get to pal park or whatever it is you need- http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pal_Park (note by the looks of things this takes a while to be opened up).
You might wish to first try patching the GBA rom and copying a save if you are using one from an emulator just to make sure it is working- the raw rom is suggested to make sure nothing is changed (some older patching programs change the things which trouble this process)
I will try to do this with Diamond first, apparently there is no pokepatch for the HG/SS, as soon as I get some results I will reply here with anything I learn.
EDIT: I discovered how to do this with the DeSmuMe emulator. This page has a good tutorial:
Worked perfectly with my EZ-Flash IV Pokémon Emerald save file and my Pokémon Soul Silver R4i3D save file, I didn’t even need to do the VBA part. Now I want to make it work on the NDS Lite console as soon as I have time, thanks again.
