The EZ5i got updates to the internal firmware so you can now run it again on a 1.4.
It got a bit complex bit nothing drastic. We have seen 4 updates with DSi capability
V11- the first one- released as a beta to the forums but not spread v12- the first one that got spread and the current version for the [805] hardware revision of the EZ5i. v13- closed beta that fixed a bug with the [705] hardware revision and SHDC v14- public release of firmware that fixed bug with the [705] hardware revision and SDHC.
Note v13 and v14 are not compatible with the [805] (it will just say does not need to update), v12 has the bug but it will update both the [705] and the [805].
The updates are in the form of a DS rom so you need something to run it like a DS, DS lite or DSi with firmware below 1.4- the whole process should be done within a minute. This means the two versions you care about are v12 and v14 depending on what version you have, you can find mirrors and the like on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13991
Running an update will tell you your hardware revision and at this point you can choose what to do- if you stick v12 on there (it will work for the two revisions) you can then use your DSi to update to v14 if necessary or you can try v14 first off and fall back to v12 if necessary.
