For those Aussie, Hunters and Collectors fans...

I received a package in the post today. Courtesty of Windirt and the EZTeam.

As soon as I get a chance, I'll yank one of these puppies apart and show you all the insides. So we can all see the difference between the two types of carts.

I've had a very quick play with the carts. First impressions:

They seem to start up faster than the current carts.
The 'compact' will lockup when selecting sub directories from the GBA menu. (It's not mean to do GBA games)
They are all white. (Slightly off white)
They are very shiny.
They don't sit perfectly flush, its off by the smallest fraction.
It looks good when slotted into a DS Lite.
The microSD is easier to insert and remove.

Now for the good news. Some of these carts are to be given away. I'm sure the other mods and Admin (Hey Sosuke) are going to be surprised by this. They didn't know about it either.

I'm going to think of a few quick and easy comps to run. And when I mean easy, I mean .... easy.

Edit: I missed a picture.

My microSD is a generic brand, and is quite slow. The Castlevania Intro still jumps around a bit. I know it's the microSD card, as it's a huge amount better than it was previously, but it's lots slower than most people are reporting here.

WOW! I really want one of the deluxe models. My DSL should be back anyday now. Doesn't matter though as the black DSL will be out next wednesday. Can't wait.

I'm sure everyone has noticed the changes in the box design. It's also no longer made of that thick cardboard material, it's now just thin card.

The kits don't contain an extension cable anymore either.

These units also don't come with a microSD, you'll have to supply your own.

Nice, wonder how "easy" this competition is going to be. And seeing that new pic, they must be planning on a major update before it releases. Maybe Kernel 2.0! Man, I really hope I can win one of those! If not I'll try to exchange my regular one for a Deluxe. I think psxbox would do it if I asked nicely and pay the differemce, or at least I hope so.

wow, they really look better then I thought. I'm thinking of getting the Compact version, but I'll just wait to see what it costs.

I've been thinking of two simple ways to give them away:

1/ Find the "hidden" post. Essentially I'd edit an old post and add some text. The first ... oooh, I dunno, one or two people (just an idea at the moment) to pm me with the information would win.

2/ Describe in 25 words or less why you deserve either cart. I'd allow 1 pic to be used to describe your point. Even though a picture says a thousand words, you'd not be penalised :) I'd throw one to the best few of those.

I said they were simple.

As for the extra pic, that was my fault. I couldnt remember how many I'd taken. I thought it was only 5, but checked the memory card and realised I'd deleted a pic, so the sequence was out of order. The post looked uneven, so I edited it and added the last pic in.

Just to point out a little quirk with the compact. It doesn't show .gba files, meaning homebrew, which must be in the .ds.gba format, doesn't show up on the cart. It will all need to be renamed to .bin. I tested some homebrew, and it runs. No better and no worse than the other EZFlash 4 based carts.
