If you are in good financial standing and want features that the other cards have, I strongly encourage you to switch to another card. Even if we continue to whine, the kernel is not going to come out any sooner, so please, save your energy. No one knows when exactly it is coming out. Personally, I am not expecting the cheat function or the new kernel out for a few months.
In the past, EZ Team regularly published about their kernel development progress. But, development progress simply cannot be guaranteed when they ran into problems. And whenever these problems occur, the Chinese forum erupts into a grand flame war. Thus, they decided not to announce their progress anymore. New kernel 1.5T?, public testing kernel, is available for Chinese users on their group.
Some clarification about the kernel versions:
1.5T6 – Leaked version has text file bug. Original version did not have this bug.
1.5? – public testing kernel. This is what they were going to release as an official kernel. But then, they decided to include cheat function in the official kernel. So, the next official kernel will be 1.6. This kernel, which still doesn’t have the cheat engine, cannot be posted to the forums. To get it, go to #ezflash @ irc.irchighway.net. If you don’t understand what the last sentence meant, google for irc help.
There will not be any guarantee if you run into problems with 1.5T?. After all, this is not an official kernel. Remember to back up saves, and other precious data, format TF card before upgrading. In the attached skin, the buttons is labelled with Japanese. If you are wondering what each button is, read the first post on page 5. Note: Clean mode with a good speed setting should play most games. If clean mode doesn’t work, hybrid mode will probably work.
1.5T? compare to 1.41
- touchscreen selection, a nicer user interface
- internal soft reset under improved hybrid mode
- save type can now be selected and saved (by touching on the Type: bar)
- 1195 Treasure Gaust – Gaust Diver – Crimson Red fixed
Known bugs (I will try to keep this list updated)
- text file bug – FIX: delete all the bookmrk*.sav or put a newer version of Moonshell on EZV
- setting screen bug – Unlike other fields on the setting screen, icon sizes can only be saved when you tap on the x.
- small icon bug – Small icon does not keep the icons small after going into a game, then soft reset or after running a game unsuccessfully. The easiest way to keep it small: select small icon, tap x, shut off ds.
- soft reset brightness bug – Sometimes, screens are dimmer after soft reset.
- picture bug – jpg, gif are always shown with ez_unknown.bmp instead of ez_jpg.bmp and ez-gif.bmp
- desktopbn.bmp bug – kernel reports skip //IMFS/shell/desktopbn.bmp when it is not needed(?)
- Moonshell soft reset bug – Using Rudolph's reset.mse, Moonshell 1.71 can reset under clean mode with no problems. Under hybrid mode, after soft resetting from a game, kernel will greet you with a blue screen when attempting to soft reset Moonshell.
- is it a gba game bug – The kernel uses the first byte in the header to determine if it is a gba game. Since some gba games do not begin with 0x2E, the kernel makes the assumption that they are not gba games. FIX: modify header, modify jump, recalculate CRC if needed
- gba manual backup (R+X) bug – serial is missing from the save’s filename.
- hybrid mode bugs: 479, 1302, details two post down

Thank you for an extremely sensible post (seriously, I'm not being sarcastic here). 10 pages of (largely) whining haven't made the kernel come out any faster, and won't. The "I'm gonna buy an R4/M3/CycloDS" bickering hasn't helped anything either.
There is one thing I love about the EZ V: It works. Most games work without any updates whatsoever (excepting save size, which is easy enough). I haven't had to wait for compatibility updates to play games. It's easy, it is quick, with few quirks (there are a couple extremely minor bugs, the MicroSD thing in the settings menu). It plays exactly as my original carts do.
I'm excited for the new kernel, but I'm not getting upset or complaining about it.

FayriOS > i'm testing this kernel just now and i can see that old bugs are always here.
Many GBA games are not seen under shell so automatic recording save process doesn't works when user change to another gba game.
Manual backup is not a good solution because it's buggy too. It records just the header name and not the serial.
In game reset (L+Start+Select) > hybrid mode enabled.
Some games doesn't seem to work with this option :
- 479 reset but shell hang with blue error screen "decoding error 0x0101 (lost synchronization) at byte offset 8192" and a couple of lines concerning mp3 sound format.
- 1302 reset and top screen stay black whereas bottom screen is displayed.
To be continued ... or perhaps it's better to open a new post where we can talk about this kernel ?
edit : Further test with 479.
I think there is something about playing sound. I have just renamed my startup.mp3 and the lost synchronisation error disapear after a IGR, but the default startup sound doesn't play and then shell hangs with the mp3 information.

is this kernel stable enough? i am not at all concerned about the cheat function, but would like to see what the ezteam is up to. you said this kernel could not be posted in the forums, how come?
Don't know if this is old news, but I found a cool feature and the 1.5T6 and 1.5T? kernel. While browsing if you goto '/EXPANSION PACK' it can load the first game that is loaded on the EZ4s NOR or a retail GBA if inserted.
